Toronto Holiday Gift Guide: Shop Local For Everyone On Your List

With so many businesses locked down or shutting their doors for good, it’s never been more important to shop local. This month I’ve been making a real effort to find made in Canada goodies for my family and friends. To spread the joy and support my wonderful small business community, I’m sharing a few ideas here in the hope that you may feel inspired to support one of these wonderful businesses. You can also check out and filter by category for the most comprehensive list of local retailers.

On behalf of our community, thank you for gifting local and a sincere, heartfelt thank you if you are considering one of our gift boxes or seasonal items for your loved ones.

With love and gratitude, Melissa

Morning Parade

Owned and operated by my friend Elektra, you can find some really great gift boxes filled with holiday goodies. I’ve got my eye on their Holiday Blondie Box.

Kitten and The Bear

Run, don’t walk, to get one of KATB’s jams. Seriously, so many amazing flavours. Perfect as stocking stuffers or to include alongside a Plenty scone. They’re also offering beautiful gift boxes and trios this month.

Rooster Coffeehouse

These wonderful neighbours offer tons of perfect stocking stuffers or gifts for the coffee lover in your life. You can order some very cool coffee accessories like the Chemex Coffee Maker or KeepCups. Available to order online and pick up.

Mary Be Kitchen

If you don’t follow Sarah yet on instagram, hop to it. She’s hilarious, kind and shares really great recipes. Check out the Be Box, which includes the killer MBK guac.

Blackbird Baking Co.

Who doesn’t LOVE their sourdough. They’ve added some seasonal items along with their usual “packs” that could be great for your family festivus. I’m definitely grabbing a Fig & Walnut Sourdough asap

Ellas Meat Market

I’m going to let you in on a little secret here. Hand to heart, this is THE best spot for local meat, with THE friendliest and most helpful staff. Known for their Greek feasts, I get everything from steak to Christmas ham to halloumi from this local spot. Call now to place your holiday order!

Dlish Cupcakes

My sister loves these cupcakes so much that I did my best to recreate them for her wedding. You can order the most adorable, festive creations for delivery or pickup. Don’t tell my sister, but I know what I’m getting her for Christmas.

Cafe Fiorentina

If you know, you know. Hands down, the best croissant in the city. You could grab a box of them for the family and pair them with some of their house-made jam. Grab some of their beignets while you’re at it if you really want to indulge. Just make sure you order ahead for takeaway so you aren’t disappointed.

Toronto Market Co

If you’re looking to support a whole bunch of local vendors and find something perfect for the foodie on your list, then Toronto Market Co is the perfect one stop shop. They offer some really great gift boxes featuring local goodies from Beekeeper’s Naturals, The Shortbread Company and MUCH more.

Spruce Home & Lifestyle

If you live in Cabbagetown, you probably know this spot well. It’s the perfect destination for something for everyone on your list. They are offering local delivery and curb-side for last minute gifts. I usually grab creative gifts for the whole family - ornaments, books, tableware. And my notoriously hard to shop for brother in law loves their Barware.

Book City

Bye bye Amazon, hello local, beloved bookseller. The Danforth location is my go to, but they have a few locations around the city offering curb-side pick up. Whether it’s Obama’s memoir, a hidden Canadian gem or the latest cookbook, they have something for every reader on your list.

V de V

Born out of Montreal with a beautiful shop on Ossington, I miss popping in here to check out their latest beautiful home goods.  They have plenty of gifts available for curb-side pickup. Perfect for the hostess (le sigh), homebody or anyone who likes beautiful things.

Fique and Clay

The clay and woven home goods from this Canadian shop are truly beautiful. You can order table ware directly from their shop or from Hopson Grace (another Toronto gem) for curb-side pickup. I’m dreaming of a full set of their woven placemats.

August Kinn

This adorable little shop in the East end is full of locally sourced goodies for the kiddo in your life. This is my go to for new parent gifting or for just about anything for my niece. They are offering curb-side pick up for the Holidays.
